Sue Bagshaw Portraits & Murals
Artist Statement
I have been drawing and painting since I was a child,
doing animal portraits and landscapes, often focusing on the textures and patterns in nature. Following an Art Foundation Course at Oxford Polytechnic, I went
on to gain a degree in Textiles and Design at UMIST and then worked in printed textiles, specialising in textiles for interiors.
After deciding to do a computer C&G, I worked in computer graphics, creating professional presentations,
for several years. I then studied Interior Design with the OCA, followed by Professional Decorative Paint
Finishes and Murals at the National Design Academy. Other arts courses include Botanical Painting, Pottery, Silk Painting, Life drawing and Portrait techniques. I
work, mainly, in pencil, watercolour pencil, watercolour and acrylic and, for murals, emulsion.
For my portraits, I take great pride in
my attention to detail in order to truly capture the character of the subject and, for my animals, also the amazing textures.
In both, creating lively images with exceptional depth and likeness is my joy. I am inspired by texture and colour – the shadows cast in
a face, the movement of fur, or the beautiful patterns in our environment, often using paint finish techniques in my work.
I enjoy working closely with clients to find the perfect format for the subject or subjects - a
pencil sketch or a painting, a head and shoulders' image or a depiction of a favourite family photo, and in my murals,
I use my design background to create original pieces of work.
In all
my commission work, be it portrait, mural, or bespoke artwork, one of my main motivations is to create the perfect finished
product for the client – to be able to see their expression when they view their work for the first time and know I
have made something unique and beautiful that they will treasure for many years to come. Prices start at £60 for a portrait and £150 for a mural For more information please contact Sue on 01664 857172
